HiMON® DMR and neutral zone monitoring
Detecting critical faults at an early stage
In modern HVDC systems, the neutral zone and the dedicated metallic return (DMR) cable play a central role in safe operation. However, it is precisely in these areas that faults can occur that are not detected by conventional control and protection systems. HiMON® DMR & Neutral Area Monitoring closes this gap.
Our system detects and localizes faults in the DMR cable and in the neutral zone precisely and reliably during operation. DMR and neutral zone monitoring as part of HiMON® provides operators with a powerful diagnostic system that reduces risks, lowers costs and increases security of supply – a decisive step towards smart, resilient energy grids.
Technical details
Intelligent reference data acquisition using “fingerprinting”
An injection unit is used to feed specific signals into the DMR cable. A pattern is created and evaluated from the resulting reflections.
Permanent fault detection & localization
During HVDC operation, signals are injected at regular intervals and reflection patterns are generated. Analysis of the reflections immediately reveals deviations from the reference pattern. If a fault is detected, it is localized immediately and precisely.
Expert assessment
In addition to automated localization, further diagnostics are carried out using an expert-based assessment as part of the HiMON® service contract.
