Impulse voltage test system

Impulse voltage test systems (IP) are used for impulse voltage testing of transformers, cables, gas-insulated switchgears (GIS), arresters, and other high-voltage devices. The test systems generate lightning impulse voltage (LI, 1.2/50 µs), chopping lightning impulse voltages (LIC, front time 1.2 µs, front, crest or tail chopped), and switching impulse voltage (SI, 250/2500 µs) in accordance with IEC 60060-1 as well as IEC 60076-3 for transformers, and IEC 62067, 60840 und 60502-2 for cables).

Your Advantages at a Glance

  1. Features a compact design to save space in the test bay

  2. Generates impulses with a low level of overshoot due to the low self-inductance of the impulse voltage test system

  3. Option of using the system to generate impulse currents

  4. Configuration of the generator for the G product line saves time due to walk-in accessibility and storage of the resistances inside the generator

  5. More possibilities to save space and time when used in combination with the Connection Point

Product Information

  • Transformers
  • Cables
  • Gas-insulated switchgears (GIS)
  • Arresters and other high-voltage devices
  • For material testing in research or training programs
  • For both factory and on-site testing

Impulse voltage test systems are available for factory testing in three product lines (L, M, and G). Voltages ranging from 10 kV to 3600 kV (LI)/2500 kV (SI) can be generated depending on the product line.

There are test systems for voltages up to 1900 kV (LI) for on-site testing available.

The standard test system consists of an impulse voltage generator and three components (voltage divider, chopping sphere gap, and overvoltage correction). HIGHVOLT offers the Connection Point, a space-saving solution combining all three components in one device.

The standard version of the test systems has a digital transient recorder, type HiRES.
It delivers precise voltage measurements and offers a variety of features for controlling the impulse voltage system as well as capturing and evaluating measurement values. The HiRES itself offers no control; it comes with the software of the IPC.
