Spring Service Project

We painted the office area at University Hills last weekend.  I appreciate the people that volunteered their time on Saturday to paint the office.  We painted the office three different colors and I think it looks pretty good.  It took some preparation work, so Kari and Scott went over on Friday and started moving things around and taping the doorways, baseboard and ceiling.  The following people helped throughout the weekend, Casey Rede, Scott Adler, Sharaya Newton, Sonya Harmon, Christina Harmon, Samantha Harmon, Jacob Harmon, Ashley Womble, Chris Larkin, James Larkin, Vanessa Gayton, and Kari Harrelson.  Thank you for helping the service project goes smoothly.  We had originally planned the service project in March, but I felt like we had too much already in March so I moved it to the last weekend of February.  Thanks for your support

Summer Mission Trip

I have made arrangements to return to the “Love and Care” ministry in Abilene to work with the homeless again.  I can only take 12 teens with me this year, so we will have to have some preparation work if you would like to experience the 30 hour journey.   The dates are July 18-23; the cost will be $40 plus meals.  You will be sleeping on the floor of the “Love and Care ministry” eating daily with the homeless and delivering food, working in the clothing room and walking.  In order to prepare for this mission trip we are requiring that you attend some pre-meetings starting in April.  You MUST attend at least 3 meetings in order to qualify to go to Abilene.  This also includes the teens that when last year.  The pre-meetings will meet on the weekend at various times.  It will include riding the city bus, helping with a fundraiser for the “We Care for Cruces” ministry, watching a special video and attending a special Sunday afternoon class.  We may even do some cool projects.  But remember, I can only take 12, so these meeting are important.   Here are the dates that we will be meeting, remember you must attend at least 3 meetings.  Session I - April 10 – riding city bus and passing out water 10 a.m. to 12 noon; Session II April 11 2-3:30 p.m. video and Class;  Session III – April 25 – Taco Fiesta fund raiser for the We Care ministry; Session I – May 15 – riding the city bus and passing out candy 10 a.m. to 12 noon , May 16; – Session II video and class 2-3:30 p.m. and Session III – June 20- Car wash fund raiser for the we care ministry.  Of course, some of these dates may change, but pencil them in and try to make all three sessions.

Dinner and a Movie

The middle school dinner and a movie are scheduled for this Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the gym.  We realize that many of you will be out of town for the state championship tournament.  However, we thought there might be some staying here in town that might enjoy watching a movie and eating supper.  If you are not leaving town for the tournament, stop by the gym at 6 p.m. and have fun.

California Bible Bowl

Half of the California Bible Bowl test will be taken next Sunday, March 14 from 2-3 p.m.  The other half of the competition will take place in Hollywood.  Because of the service projects on the trip, we will have a condensed version of the competition and awards will be given there on Saturday afternoon.  We will be leaving for the California Trip, Thursday after school on March 18.  We will travel to Phoenix to spend the night on the floor and then continue traveling to Hollywood early Friday morning.  We are trying to avoid the rush hour traffic that usually starts around 4 p.m.  We will have more information next week about the trip.

Concert!

There is a concert with Disciple, a hard rock band, which is also very well known performing here in the Gym on March 22 at 7 p.m. we are selling tickets at the church office for $12 a person.  If you like loud hardcore rock you will love this band.  They will pack out the house, so pick up your tickets early!
