California Here We Come!

It looks like we will be leaving at 2:30 p.m. instead of 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.  You need to have your parents write a note to the school saying you will be missing half a day on Thursday and all of Friday.  I hope that this is not a hardship on anyone.  If there is a real problem or concern, please let me know and perhaps we can delay our departure.  Part of the reasoning for the time change has to do with our departure on Friday morning.  We usually wake up at 5 a.m. and leave at 6 a.m. and if we left at 4:30 p.m. we would arrive in Phoenix around midnight, so the lack of sleep and the amount of driving has me worried.   We will be staying at the Northwest Church of Christ in Phoenix and then we will be at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Burbank California Friday through Sunday night.  We will return to Las Cruces late Monday night around 10 p.m.  You will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, sleeping pad, toiletries, clothes for four days, swim suite, towel, jacket (it is cold in California), spending money for junk food and souvenirs.  All your meals are paid for, it should be a nice trip!  We will take the test before we leave, today at 2 p.m.  That’s right; we are taking the Bible Bowl quiz before we leave so we can focus on the service projects once we arrive.  Don’t worry, we will have our awards ceremony Saturday afternoon and everyone will be recognized for the effort.  They are placing people, 1st thru 6th place in individual and team.   We will also be taking a tour of Pepperdine University on Saturday and they are feeding us.  So we are very excited about all the neat things we will get to do in California.  We are able to have such a nice trip because of the fundraiser and generous people.  Be sure to thank everyone that supported us throughout the bible bowl season!

Backpacking

We are meeting today at 3:30 p.m. to go over the backpacking trip and break up into food groups.  If you are interested in going but are unable to attend the meetings, please let me know today.  We need everyone in a food group before Wednesday night!  We will be leaving Thursday morning, March 25 and returning Saturday afternoon, March 27.  We are planning on going to the “Catwalk” which is near Glenwood New Mexico.  The road is paved all the way, and we will NOT be walking through water.  However, it will be cold so we are considering this a winter camping trip.  It has snowed on us every year we have gone in March; it will probably do so here as well.  It is a hard hike because we are steadily climbing so expect to get a work out!  Don’t miss the meeting today!

Disciple Concert

A Christian rock group, “Disciple” will be performing here, Monday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in the Gym.  The tickets are $12 or $10 for 10 or more people.  This group is very popular and has been performing for several years.  I would say that they play hard rock music and usually have excellent concerts!  If you are in town and enjoy that kind of music, you will probably enjoy this concert.  I am sure it will be very entertaining!  Don’t miss out on this opportunity and bring some friends to enjoy the music!  The tickets can be purchased at the church office or at the door.  We are hoping to have more Christian concerts so please take time to support this ministry.  Jill Ross and her husband are working on it together!

Class Changes

I will be teaching a parenting class on Sunday morning starting March 28, so Derek Blanchard and Jeremy Maupin will be teaching the Middle School Class from March 28-May 16 – 8 weeks.  They will continue teaching on Exodus and I am sure that they will do a great job!  Both these young men have worked for me during the summer as interns and can relate very well to the middle school and high school.  I am glad they are helping me out as I teach an adult parenting class.

Parents Page

If you have specific questions about the California trip, please give me a call and I will try to answer your questions.  We did move the time of departure up a couple of hours.  This will place us in Phoenix at a reasonable time and we will depart Friday morning early.  I apologize if this causes a hardship at school.  Each parent need to write a note to the school explaining why their son or daughter is not there.   If the time schedule is a problem, please let me know.  I can make the necessary changes.  This is our last Bible Bowl meeting today and after next week we will take a long needed break.  If you are interested in going on the backpacking trip please attend the meeting today at 3:30 p.m.  If you have a daughter, you might be interested in the Mother/Daughter Retreat that is scheduled for May 7-8.  We will give you more information as it gets closer.  Thanks for your support!  God Bless,

David
